Motherhood

This is the chapter I love most. I can walk the whole of it with you, from the first weeks of knowing, through the months of growing, to the days when you are about to pop. Then the birth itself, the first days of holding, and the years after that, when they are running around the garden and a family shoot is the only way to keep up with them.

I photograph births, and I film them. Some of that work is not shown here, out of respect for the families who trusted me with it, and there is one birth film on this page so you can see how gently it is done. Birth is a threshold. I stay quiet and out of the way, there for you rather than for the frame.

I would love to be there for your blessingway or your baby shower too. Those days are some of my favourites, the flowers everywhere, the bellies that get painted, the women who gather around you.

To photograph a woman as her body changes, to be there when the baby comes, to watch them grow and to be part of the whole of it, is a real gift. I adore this work, and I would love to make it with you.
